26.2 miles later

This past weekend I ran a marathon with four amazing ladies.

Seriously, though, it was such a cool experience. And surprisingly fun! Anywho, here are some the pictures from our big day, which I obviously can’t take credit for, so many thanks to Jeff and Emory for documenting our race!

Our fantastic team of supporters. They ran last year’s marathon. Not really, but they’d like you to think that.

Sunrise! We got to watch it for the first few miles. So pretty. You guys know how I love a good sunrise.

Mile 11ish! First time we saw everyone. SO happy.

LOVE this picture of Rach and Papa Cooley.

This little bit was probably my favorite part of the whole race. Except for finishing. Running with my mama and Brendan around mile 19. So, so great.

Alison finished her first marathon in under 4 hours. #Impressed

Carolina girls…. best beefiest in the world.

Legitimately one of the greatest feelings ever. Joy. Relief. So glad I got to share this moment with Rach!

Post race!

So happy!

And then we all jumped in the ocean. It was flipping cold, but felt so good for some reason.

It’s a marathon

I took that picture almost a year ago after finishing my first half-marathon. What an amazing feeling. Seriously the greatest runner’s high ever. Once I finished it I knew I wanted to go just a little farther so tomorrow I’ll be running my first full marathon with Blair, Hilary, Alison and Rachel in Myrtle Beach.  Excited doesn’t even begin to cover it! So, all this to say that if you happen to be awake anytime between about 6am and 11am, your prayers would be greatly appreciated! Some of our amazing friends (and my lovely mom!) are coming down to support us and cheer us on, so I know that’s what will really keep me going. I can’t wait for that feeling when I cross the finish line!

run a half marathon: check!

So remember when I mentioned a while back about the Dismal Swamp Stomp? Well, yesterday I ran it! It went wonderfully!  Seriously, I might become one of those race fanatics we all think are crazy.  I ran it with 6 really cool people who were the reason I was able to finish with a smile on my face.  I was feeling really great for just about the entire race and even ran off the track for a quick second (nearly tripping of course) to pick some cute yellow flowers to put in our hair. Go ahead. Judge me.

It was everybody’s first race (except Melissa, who beat her own record!) so it was so fun to accomplish this together.  Definitely a life goal achieved, which is always an amazing feeling. I had a runner’s high the rest of the day and the appetite of cow.  Melis and I seriously wanted to eat everything in sight.  Naturally, Mr. Nikon came to the race, and our awesome cheerleader/photographer, Jon, was great at catching everyone crossing the finish line as well as making us a sweet poster.  Finishing the race was probably one of the best feelings of my life, and I was so proud of everyone for doing something so cool.  I’m looking at running a marathon next year…. anybody in?

All of us runners!

Carb-loading and the most amazing Swiss cheese the night before.

The Glendie likes to run

Cool State friends, and me and Kelsey risking it all with the surprisingly tasty Gatorade energy gel.

13.1 miles later!

2:09:30 and filled with JOY.

Jon with his glittery work of art and happy runner sisters

Ill probably make a frame for this picture.

A life goal completed :)

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.  Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
