Hello hello! Long time, no blog! But I’m back and ready to show you some beautiful paintings by Karen Margulis. She had me at the sunflower, but now I really can’t decide which is my favorite! Her pastels are simply beautiful. It was really hard for me to choose which pieces to post, so make sure to head over to her website/blog and see what else she’s creating!

Artist Tuesday: Noomie Doodles

I love this Jakarta-based illustrator’s little sketches and watercolors. She has a ton of variety too, drawing everything from ballerinas to fashionistas to nature. And watercolor is my favorite medium, so I’m a fan! I can’t really decide which one is my favorite, but I love the little goldfish above! See more of her lovely work on her blog!

NC Museum of Art

No.1 I love art.

No.2 I love Diana.

No.3 I love that Diana loves art too.

No. 4 Our afternoon at the North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh was splendid.

I you ever have a few hours, you should definitely spend them here! They’ve got tons of really neat pieces and an entire outdoor trail/park. There’s a really fantastic field that just begs to be frolicked in. Diana is one of my coolest friends and we had such a fun time feeling cultured as we looked at art and talked about traveling the world. Are we sophisticated? You bet! Here’s a few of my favorite shots from our artsy adventure!

Artist Tuesday: Berthe Morisot

I haven’t given you guys an Impressionist in a while, not I thought I’d share some beautiful pieces by one of the movement’s leading female artists. Aren’t they lovely? Goodness, Impressionism. You win me every time. Also, I know I completely forgot about Artist Tuesday last week. Whoops! Hope these pretty pieces make up for it. Enjoy!

Artist Tuesday: Kristy Gammill

Homegirl loves her some color. I think we’d be great friends with this in common. Anyway, my favorite is the last one where she mixes the flowers in with a flurry of color. These are for sale, so just remember that my birthday is is August :) Hop over to her website to see more of her beautiful work!

Artist Tuesday: French Revolutionary Art

So here I am, sitting in Davis Library, typing away at my lovely art history paper, when it hits me: I forgot Artist Tuesday. Again. Apologies! We’ll have the late night edition today.  I figure the pieces I’m writing my paper on are the most appropriate.  Pretty, I’m writing about how French portrayals of foreigners, exotic people or Native Americans illustrates how the French are both fascinated by these groups, but also demeaning towards them.  All the pieces are in the Ackland Art Museum here in Chapel Hill, so take a peek if you have some free time! Here are a few of my favorites:

"The Turban" by Paul Gavarni

"The Osages in Paris" by an unknown artist

These two have a Romeo and Juliet-esque love story if you want to read about it here!

"Atala and Chactas" by Anna de l'Apinais

"Arabes d'Oran" by Eugene Delacroix

Only a few more days until I’m done with school forever.  I can make it!

Artist Tuesday: Eric Carle

Everybody recognizes loves the Very Hungry Caterpillar. I chose today’s artist for a couple of reasons, one being that Hil made a really cute craft based on Eric’s style of painting. She’s also one of his biggest fans. Second, because today was my last day of school- EVER! So weird. So, I thought that a children’s books illustrator and author would be fitting choice since I’m only 3 tests and a very large paper away from being an official grown-up. Crazyness! Anyway, here are a few of my favorites, so enjoy!

Sunflowers: my absolute favorite!

I wish I had pretzel as big as the sun to eat. #veryhungryemily

SLOTHE. YES.

How I’ll feel tonight after eating my body weight in brownies at my last Bible study with Motown!

Summer is so close!

And a sweet little note by the man himself. He’s the coolest.

Artist Tuesday: Lorenzo Duran

I have literally never seen anything like this before. Lorenzo takes fallen leaves and carves nature scenes and designs in them. Creativity like this is just the coolest things to me!

See more of his work here!
