the city

Guys, I’m a bit of a city girl. Not sure where it came from, but it’s in me. I love the rush of being in a huge crowd and the seemingly endless amount of exploring big cities offer. So, naturally, I love New York. I went up last week with a group of UNC J-School students to tour a few magazines and an inside look at how they run. More importantly, we got so much great advice on how to break into that industry. The personal highlight for me was meeting the real weddings photography editor at The Knot. Oh man. So much fun! A snafu with email addresses meant I contacted her pretty late and probably inconveniently, but she was nice enough to give me a tour of their offices, a free copy of their latest issue and chat with me about how she got to where she is today. I definitely left with a strong interest in her career field. How much fun would it be to spend your day going through wedding pictures?? I do that anyway when I should probably reading for my Roman Art class. Unfortunately, I didn’t have much time for picture-taking, but here are a few of my faves!

The other happy thing I did was successfully brave the NYC Subway solo and without a map in pursuit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Such an awesome place. I definitely wish I more time there. An excuse to go back right?

Speaking of Degas…. oh and that vase was a major contributer to an 18-page paper I wrote my sophomore year for an art history class. First college all-nighter.

Classic group picture (taken in the super nice App State Loft!)

  1. I am SO jealous of this trip and so bummed that I couldn’t go! It looks like you guys had an amazing time!

PS–My first all-nighter was for the Art 151 paper as well!

  2. Nice…Did you eat at any 4-star restaurants whilst you were there? We did earlier in the month…
